lyrics
I take pictures of my friends
and pretend that I don’t know them,
pretend that I won’t love them
through all of our lives.
Little do I know
my pictures overflow
with accidental meaning
if any at all,
remembrin’ that a vagrant is a landlord-less serf
their nails & teeth are grey and they’re frayed
fingers, hands that rummage in the soil,
combing for something resembling joy!
I write about my loved ones,
to make sure they don’t leave me—
I churn out little fables,
and they like when I read,
but anecdotes fall short:
with every good citation;
to describe the trepidation
prosperity has brought,
remembrin’ that a vagrant is a landlord-less serf
their nails & teeth are grey and they’re frayed
fingers, hands that rummage in the soil,
combing for something resembling joy!
The worker and their labour
The ludicrous and lucrative,
just like you and I,
stand side by side.
Darling, please ask me to
ask and deconstruct you,
the woes and the ways
you survive another day,
while the state and the market have married at last
and the roses descend, and land in a wreath
in memory of a far long innocence lost
to cities, and fathers, and something resembling joy!
